Water Bill Dispute
If you have a concern or feel there is a problem with your water bill please fill out the Dispute Form listed below.
Disputes must be submitted in writing within 60 days of the bill in question. The City of Poteet will provide a response within 60 days of receipt of the complaint.
A representative is available from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm on Monday thru Friday.
Payment Options: We accept cash, checks, credit or debit cards, and money orders. No postdated checks will be accepted. A 3% processing fee will be charged on water bill Credit Card Transactions. A 5% processing fee will be charged on all other Credit Card Transactions.
Make sure you include your bill stub with your payment. If no stub can be provided, please include the name on the account, address or account number to ensure the proper account is credited. There will be a fee of $1 added to your account if no slip is provided.
Deposits: Residential and Commercial water deposits are $250
Meter Readings: A customer may request a re-read of their meter. A special meter reading charge of $10 will be charged to next month’s bill if the original reading is determined to be correct. If the original reading is incorrect there will be no charge.
Meters are read around the 15th of every month. If you feel there is something wrong with your meter, please notify the city office at 830-742-3574.
Due Date: Water billing payments are due by the 15th of each month (next business day if the 15th falls on a weekend or holiday). Payments may be made at City Hall located at 491 Ave H.
Penalties: After the 10th, a 10% penalty will be added to your current bill, if it has not yet been paid, and your account will be considered past due. The late fee will not be assessed until the next business day after the bill’s published due date at 12:00pm. If your past due bill is not paid by the 4thMonday of each month in its entirety, which includes penalty, you will be subject to disconnection.
Disconnection: If the customer has already been cut-off, a $25 Disconnection Fee and the full balance of your account (past due) must be paid before services are restored. For more information call (830) 663-2804.
Termination of Disconnected Services: After 30 days (1 month) of nonpayment we will terminate the customers services and shall apply the deposit towards the outstanding balance. To re-establish services, you will be required to pay all past due amounts and a new balance of $250.

Water Line Problems: The City maintains the mains and service line to the meter. Trouble in the water line between the meter and house is the responsibility of the customer. For Service Inquiries, please contact the City at (830) 742-3574.
Sewer Line Problems: The City maintains the mains to the property line tap. Trouble in the line between the tap and the house is the responsibility of the customer. For Service Inquiries, please contact the City at (830) 742-3574.
Refuse: All refuse is collection and disposal within the City is performed by Republic Services. For Service Inquiries or problems, please contact the City at (830) 742-3574.
December, January, and February are the months used to average water consumption for the purpose of establishing a customer’s sewer rate for the upcoming year. The water usage will be averaged for each customer and the new sewer rate will be on your March bill. Please be aware of this as you use water during these months. If you have any water leaks or other problems that will cause your consumption to be high, call Poteet City offices at (830) 742-3574 to inform us of this so we may take this into consideration when assessing a new sewer charge for your account.
Night Drop: A payment slot is available for drop-off payments; it is located to the right of the front doors. Payments must be made in slot no later than 8:00 am to receive credit for payment that day.
NSF Checks: All returned checks will be assessed a fee of $30. After one NSF check is received, the city will not accept any payments made by check for a one-year period from date of the NSF check.
Reconnect Fee During Non-Business Hours: Any customer requesting services to be reconnected will be required to pay an additional re-connection fee of $50. Payments must be received by 10:00 am the next business day or services will be disconnected and an additional fee will be applied to the customer’s utility bill.
Tampering Fee: Customers who reconnect without authorization will be assessed an additional $250 theft of service fee, and may be reported to the Police Department for theft of service.
Meter Testing: A customer may request their water meter to be tested to determine if the meter is reading properly. A special meter test charge of $20 will be charged on the next month’s water bill if the test indicates that the meter is working properly. There will be no charge if the meter is determined to not be working properly.

NOTE: Residential costs per 1,000 gallons are averaged once a year using the months of December, January, and February usage. New customers with no established average will be charged based on 5,000 gallons until an average is set. Commercial accounts get billed actual consumption.
