In the case of life-threatening emergency, we will dispatch a fire truck along with an EMS unit to provide extra assistance when needed.
Burning small piles of leaves or small limbs is prohibited. Further information on burning can be found on the city’s website under Burning Ordinance 11012017-01.
The Poteet VFD can assist with the installation of smoke alarms in residences of citizens who cannot afford them. This service is limited to private residences only. In order to join the Poteet VFD, an individual must complete an application for membership, successfully pass a background check and be voted into the department by the membership at a business meeting. We are always looking for additional help and would be glad to meet those interested. We conduct our business meetings on the first Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at the fire station located at 530 Avenue H. Those interested should complete an application and bring it with them to the meeting (You must be present at a meeting to be considered for membership).
The Poteet VFD does not go out to fill swimming pools. The water provided to the fire department is for fire protection purposes only.
The Poteet VFD does not handle bees unless it is an emergency situation and they are harming someone. If it is an emergency, call 9-1-1 and request the Fire Department. If the situation is not an emergency and a resident just wants the bees removed, he or she will need to call a licensed beekeeper.

Safely pull to the right and stop until the emergency vehicle has passed. Be aware that, at times, there may be more than one emergency vehicle that needs to pass.
